How To Use Twitter to Sell More Books Part 3

So here we are at the third installment of our How to use Twitter to Sell More Books series. Don’t worry, I will continue on with articles on Hootsuite and Twitter devices created to aid in scheduling so that you don’t spend all your writing time on marketing.

  1. Take Advantage of Twitter Lists.

Twitter allows the user to separate their followers into lists. In this way, the user spends less time scrolling and more time interacting. I can envision a list for other authors, top fans and those that engage in conversation, writing based listings, and your personal favorites/friends. As with most things, it takes a bit to set it up

  1. Use Quotes When You Retweet

I’ve seen this more and more on Twitter.  It is so easy to just hit Retweet. I do it all the time. But I’ve noticed many take a bit more effort and add their own thoughts in a quote. It draws the attention of the reader and adds value to the tweeted item.

  1. Tweet Often

This is fairly obvious. Tweet often throughout the day. There is very little chance you can tweet too much. Vary through direct marketing of your titles, comments on other tweets, and items of interests. When will I write? I hear you cry.  It is trial we all must bear.  Until you become popular enough to hire a publicist or personal assistant, much of your time will be spent getting others to recognize your name and works. The tip from is that for every promotional tweet you should have four that provide real value.  I had to laugh a bit over the ‘real value’ part.  I consider my promotion of my book to be of real value.

  1. Use Automation (But Don’t Overuse It)

There are applications such as Hootsuite and Buffer specifically created to assist with the delivery of your tweets and other social media posts by setting up a schedule and sending them out automatically. I think this is great for your promotions and a wonderful way of covering different times during the days. Of course, you don’t want to come off as a robot so make sure you continue to tweet on your own as well.

  1. Is Your Book in Competition?

Don’t be afraid to ask your followers to vote. If the competition depends on fan votes then get out there and rally the troops.  The more exposure you garner as a writer, the more books you sell. Be sure to return the favor when your fellow author is in competition.
