This week’s edition of Raising Voices comes from one of my daughter’s schoolmates. Ciela is 13 years old and loves writing fanfic for her favorite anime shows. The following poem is from a story she is working on which I believe is based on Kuroshitsuji.

My love, our love is like a blue rose, It’s not real, it doesn’t exist, but I wish it did.

My love, it’s hard to live with you not here by my side.

I want you here to love. I want to hold you in my embrace until all of the bad things in the world shatter to pieces and disappear.

Darling, I would give my heart if I could see you again. I’d sell my should just to be with you forever. I know that you may not know this, even though it’s kind of obvious, I’m trying to ask you to be mine.

Be mine and only mine. Share your feelings with me, for I will be your shoulder to cry on, a hand you may reach out for when in need. I will me your house, sheltering you from everything that could hurt you. I will love and protect you forever if you will please be mine. Please tell me you will be mine. Tell me that you will never leave me as I will never leave you. Promise me that you will let me hold you in my warm, comforting arms until all the pain and suffering of life goes away. Please tell me that you will let me be yours and you, mine.

Please tell me that you will be mine, my one blue rose in a sea of plain red roses.

I adore this and I love seeing children find their voices and learning to express themselves. We have so much beauty in our youth just waiting to be cultivated. Show an interest in your child’s passions. You may not always like them but those drums they bang on, those words they scrawl and those pencil strokes used to give life to the images in their heads are THEIR voices. Our arts are doorways to our hearts, keep their doors open.

“That’s one of the first things that comes out of young people’s mouths when they’re in love. FOREVER. And that’s cool, it’s all good-until you get old enough to realize what forever is.”
