TMT: Forbidden Love

March 17, 2014 Writing 17

I love putting mixtapes together, and sometimes, when searching for appropriate songs for a theme, I discover some new loves. Sometimes, those are “forbidden” songs I wouldn’t put on my playlist because I wouldn’t want my youngest child to be singing them in public…

Anyway, this week’s theme is forbidden love, and I’m telling you there are so many forbidden love songs on the radio its not funny. I decided to steer clear of the rape/incest etc type songs in favor of the bad boy/good girl ones, because I have found there are more of those in my actual playlist than I expected.

Would you like to see?

I had dreams of being loved like Juliet when I was a teen, so of course, I would fall in love with a Taylor Swift song about forbidden love…

That you were Romeo, you were throwing pebbles,
And my daddy said, “Stay away from Juliet”
And I was crying on the staircase
Begging you, “Please don’t go”

Sometimes you have to hide your blossoming love because you know it’s wrong even when it feels right…

Look at the way
we gotta hide what we’re doin’
’cause what would they say
if they ever knew

Sometimes, our parents warn us of the dangers of that one person we just can’t leave.

Daddy, daddy if you could only see
Just how good he’s been treating me
You’d give us your blessing right now

There’s also the whole world of being jailbait. You know, all those 17 year old and college kid relationships? Yeah, those are forbidden too!

I still remember
When thirty was old
My biggest fear was September
When he had to go

And in conclusion, what man could resist the temptation of a beautiful young girl in need of a hero? The opening lines say it all…

Beauty queen of only eighteen
She had some trouble with herself
He was always there to help her
She always belonged to someone else

As a bonus, I can’t resist going back in time to an early song that is a lot of fun to sing in its forbidden love and tragic end…

One day my dad said, “Find someone new”
I had to tell my Jimmy, we’re through

And there you have it, friends. That’s a wrap for another Twisted Mixtape Tuesday hosted by Jen Kehl at My Skewed View.

Come play along!

Oh this is perfect! I love your take on this. We did this theme almost a year ago, but I loved it so much I wanted to do it again. Last time I did something similar and I included Me and Mrs Jones. I’m so 80s, love the that you used Tiffany and Madonna!

  2. I love that you included “Leader of the Pack.” That was one of the first songs I thought of for this theme. Unfortunately, I’m stuck and can’t seem to think of five. I’m going to pretend I helped you put this post together.

  3. Love the list. My favorite would be Maroon Five. Classic!

Love your list! I am a real fan of Love Story by Taylor Swift and don’t care who knows it. I came very close to adding She Will Be Loved to mine but Justin Timberlake won out this week. Enjoyed this very much!

  5. Have always loved pap don’t preach That one’s really about ten age forbidden love

you and I have such similar tastes in music and I love how you don’t hide your love of country or 80’s or even ska.
Your lists are always refreshing and bring back such great memories or make me listen to a song that I wouldn’t normally like again with a new mind.

Strawberry Wine…wow, what a great song. Right?

It is a great song! Thank you for enjoying my lists. I’m not embarrassed by my music in any way, just ask my kids, LOL.

I love the list. I remember always doing my best lip sync to Tiffany and Madonna, especially those two songs. And Maroon 5- great choice.

I remember singing Leader of the Pack back in my chorus days 🙂
