Out of Context: It’s All About the Sock
You know how it happens, you’re minding your own business, eavesdropping on the table next to yours in the coffee shop, when suddenly you hear…something. You missed what they said before but the last sentence has your mind whirling with possibilities.
Or maybe you’re in line at the grocery store, sorting your coupons when…wait…she didn’t say what I think she did, did she?
It happens to all of us at one time or another. Something we said or heard is out of context and the results can be hilarious or mortifying. It just all depends on your imagination I suppose.
In honor of these well placed faux pas, OWS would like to present its new prompt series, Out Of Context. Each week you will receive a single sentence, quote, or phrase to weave into a flash fiction story. The tone is up to you but please keep it relatively clean. Amanda will pick her favorite response to the prompt to include in the weekly newsletter.
The rules for participation are listed under the prompt image.
The rules are simple:
- Read the prompt and the history behind the phrase.
- Write a story 700 words or less answering the challenge.
- Share the URL to your story in the comments OR, if you don’t have your own blog, share your story in the comments. Either way, it will be seen.
- Add trigger warnings where necessary. Keep vulgarity to a minimum.
- Have FUN!
