Master Class 2013: The Great and Secret Show

Master Class 2013: The Great and Secret Show
April 25, 2013 19 Comments Master Class, Writing Stephanie Ayers

Its time for your Master Class assignment this week. Last week we had a smaller showing but still top quality work.

Renee offered up a short and sweet little tale that asks the age old question of “Who” in “Revenge of the Shoemaker’s Elves.”

Kir and Carrie teamed up and submitted excerpts from their collaborative work “The Path You Choose.” Kir’s version packed the literal punch while Carrie’s left you feeling a “Sense of Dread.”

Words With Teeth gave us a beautifully written personal (and visual) perspective on a ditched date with an unexpected ending in “That’s All I Remember.

Tara’s Cornflower Fields takes you on a journey inside a trapped mind.

However, it was Shannon’s “Not Enough Me” that set the bar so high this week with its distinct visuals and masterful weaving. I asked Shannon to give me the first line of the first paragraph on the 52nd page of any book of her choosing. She chose the horror master, Clive Barker’s The Great and Secret Show. Your assignment for this week is:

“She took off her glasses and squinted at the white hot sky, vaguely wondering if it was already on it’s way.”

In a new twist to challenge you this week, this line must go in the middle of your story, but not within either the first two or last two paragraphs.

You have until 9:00 pm Tuesday, April 30, 2013 to turn in your assignments.

The linkup is now live.

Ready? Set? Write!

Congrats Shannon! – I loved your story. I’m sorry I missed last week’s assignment. I had a little too much going on. I plan to be back at my desk this week! I like the twist – right smack in the middle of the story.

Congrats, Shannon! This is a great line because it’s absolutely perfect for me to use on the the first post of a new project. Actually, the first of many new projects. SS got a facelift but it’s also going in a new direction. This Master Class piece is gonna kick it all off!

I had an absolute blast writing this one. It literally flew out of me at break neck speed. At 6:30 I told my girlfriend about what I was going to write. at 7:15 I had 5 pages written and started the revision process. Its kind of like it already existed and I just unleashed it . hehe Thanks for the prompt!
