Fractured Friday: Twisted Tales 2
A couple of summers ago, I had the great fun of collaborating with other writers to produce “Flip Flop Fiction.” Using the Mad Hatter and his hat as the mode of time travel, characters from one story would make an appearance in another story and change it. We had wonderful fun twisting the fairy tales.
When we were coming up with ideas for the writing site, Fractured Fiction came to mind. A.L. Mabry suggested we do it with nursery rhymes instead, so, voila! Our Write Side proudly presents Fractured Fridays: fractured flash fiction, putting new spins on the nursery rhymes we all know and love.
For the rest of this month, we are going to go in a different direction using literary characters from all types of stories as our prompts.
The rules are simple:
- Read the information.
- Read the challenge.
- Write a story 700 words or less answering the challenge.
- Share the url to your story in the comments OR, if you don’t have your own blog, share your story in the comments. Either way, it will be seen.
- Please keep your stories pg-13 or under since this is a public page. Add trigger warnings where necessary. Keep vulgarity to a minimum.
- Have FUN!
Now, are you ready for the prompt?
Your challenge is to drop a literary character into another story and create a new twist. One example would be dropping Captain Hook in Cinderella and giving Prince Charming a reason to get jealous.
In that same theory, please choose a character from one of the stories listed below, and drop them in another story of your choosing. Let’s see how much trouble you can get them into. Don’t be afraid to be creative.
- Peter Pan
- Game of Thrones
- Great Expectations
You have until Thursday, December 17, 11:59 pm EST to transplant these characters in new stories.
