Book Title: Awaken Your Confidence: 15 People Share Their Journey to Success
Author: Rachel Smets
Amazon rating: 5

This is, in my opinion, the thing about self-help books, I’ve written one but never published it because, when it came right down to it, who was I to give advice? So I am a bit dubious when reading one based solely on personal experience. Fifteen experiences…not so much…especially when the fifteen have so much culminated know-how.
In Awaken Your Confidence by Rachel Smelts, the testimonials of leaders in business and the arts are the ‘I did it, you can too’ that most of us can use as a catalyst for change. I say ‘most’ because there are some that simply are not to a point in their lives to accept change. For these, there will always be reasons and excuses for maintaining the status quo.
For those receptive to the message, Awaken Your Confidence is a good guidepost in your journey of self-discovery and breaking the chains holding you back. Following the stories are several chapters of Life Hacks, as she calls them. They are practical steps for putting the advice into use.
I liked the format. At the end of each chapter in the first half is a summary ‘Keys to Confidence’ highlighting points in the previous story. In the last half, the chapter summaries become ‘Taking Action’ notes.
As I said before, the book is based primarily on personal experiences and no two experiences will be completely alike. Remember also that setbacks do not mean failure. Most of these people experienced setbacks and changes did not come overnight. What they do have in common is they realized life was not giving them what they wanted and they were the only ones who could change it.
I recommend the book for its practical experience and informational guidance.
